Lord of Tremors

Location: Cusco
Date: The second part of March and the first week of April

Since 1650, according to the devotees, a canvas of Christ of the Good Death stopped a strong earthquake that shaked the city of Cusco. People worship the image of "Taitacha Tremors". This celebration allows us to clearly observe the merge of the Andean and Christian Religions.

This ceremony is an expression of Andean-Christian syncretism. The effigy is taken out in a procession from the Cathedral of Cusco, which was built on top of the temple of god Wiracocha, and is paraded around the streets of the city as the faithful throw ñucchu flowers -in ancient times used as an offering to the Inca gods- symbolizing the blood of Christ.
