  QUYLLORITI

Description

Qoyllority is a quechua word which means Snowstar or Shining Snow. The people of this zone are also a stream of Taytacha Qoylloriti (The sir of the Replacement Snow). This a old religious procession only practiced by the inhabitants of the big Andes. Every year, days before the celebration of Corpus Christi, every small village or clan send a delegation with colorful dancers and "pauluchas" to the Capilla del Senor Qoylloriti. This is situated of the beginning of the mountain Sinakara in the village of Mawayany, at 4600 meters above sea level.
Los pauluchas represented alpacas and are intermediares between the Sir Qoylloriti and his men. Therefore the climb at 4 o'clock in the morning the gletzjer Sinikara while they ask for a grow of their groups of animals. During the party the people who partipated in the prosession praise our Fatima Lady to have good luck in business, life and future. The end of the prosession takes place at the ancient Inca capital of Cusco with the processions of Corpus Christi, streets filled with people and squares with music and color.

Itinerary

  • FIRST DAY:
    SATURDAY 05: We depart at 08:00 P.M. and arrive at approximately 12.00 P.M in Maguallani. There we have half an hour to sign up our team and we go to Qoylloritti, which is situated at 292 km away from Cusco. We will walk in the light of the moon in a procession together with more than 2000 pilgrims devoted to Sr. De Qoylloritti. At around 3:00 A.M. we will arrive at our campsite where we can relax and overnight.

  • SECOND DAY:
    At 07:00 A.M we will have breakfast. Afterwards we will go to the church to participate in the daily mass, which takes approximately half an hour. Then we start our hike towards the holy mountain of Qoylloritti, where we will observe all the ancient rites and customs that they even put in practice at the altitude of 4, 800 meters above sea level. After that we will have lunch and subsequently we continue our trek that goes up and down for 4 hours in total. We arrive at the Feria, in which every visitor participates. At 07:00 P.M. we will enjoy dinner and afterwards we go to sleep.

  • THIRD DAY:
    At 07:00 A.M again we can take our breakfast. Next, we will walk back to Maguallani in approximately 2 hours. Here we will shortly visit this place, have lunch and afterwards go back to Cusco by car, where we will arrive at about 04:00 PM.
