The "Lost City of the Inca’s", Machu Picchu, has celebrated its 32nd birthday as a Protected National Area, and has marked the event with several activities.
There was a civic parade last Sunday in Aguas Calientes, the closest town to the Incan Citadel. The following day children and young people of the town participated in an art competition, whilst their parents and adults enjoyed a photography exhibition. Tuesday marked the jog from Machu Picchu back down to the town.
Machu Picchu was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1983 and a wonder of the modern world in 2007.
