All Normal in Machu Picchu Despite Threats

Tourism in and around Cusco, as well as at Machu Picchu is operating normally, after the US State Department issued a security alert on 14 February for US travellers.

The alert advised of the potential threat of kidnapping in the Cusco area, since the criminal organization had said that it planned to kidnap tourists near the ancient Inca citadel of Machu Picchu.

President Ollanta Humala said that the country had taken precautionary measures to ensure the safety of all tourists in these areas, and that the threats lack evidence and probably just wanted to harm the tourism industry during this time.
