Road to Machu Picchu blocked

Workers labored for 12 hours to remove boulder had fallen into road up to Machu Picchu archaeological site due to the heavy rainfalls in Aguas Calientes.

A very big rock  that had been blocking the road to Machu Picchu since early this morning was removed finally after 12 hours of hard work with the help of over 85 workers.

Since the boulder was so close to Machu Picchu itselfs, no dynamite or heavy machineries could be used; the people only worked with hammers and small hand tools!

Prior to the boulder’s removal, the present tourists had to walk for at least two kilometers to reach the ruins, as buses could not drive around the boulder, which measured approximately four meters high by five meters wide.
