Better Transport for School Kids Lake Titicaca

Wednesday December 2, 2015
Better Transport for School Kids Lake Titicaca published a petition that aims to offer children in Lake Titicaca, in Southern Peru, better transportation to and from school. Titled “Que los niños del lago Titicaca puedan tener un bote para transportarse a su escuela,” or “So that the children of Lake Titicaca can have a boat to transport them to school”, the petition calls for the community to sign so that the children of Lake Titicaca may have a boat to transfer them to and from school.

The petition tells the story of two 8-year-old boys who leave for school at 8:00 a.m. on rafts above the six degree Celsius water of the highest navegable lake in the world, at about 500 kilometers from Cusco. Alfredo and Hugo begin their 2 kilometer, hour-and-a-half journey to school at 8:00 a.m., often arriving tired and with wet school supplies.

The petition is addressed to Ministerio de Sanidad, Servicios Sociales e Igualdad, Municipalidad Provincial de Puno, and Alcaldía Provincial de Puno.
