Cusco: Strikes due to setbacks in construction Chinchero airport

The long-awaited completion of the construction of Chinchero international airport in Cusco has caused political disagreements between Congress and the local administration and have left the achievement of the project looking further away than ever.

In Cusco, the complications due to disagreements in funding have led to severe protests and strikes.

Citizens and labour organisations of the region are requesting a defined plan to finally complete the construction of the long-promised international airport for Cusco.

Local schools have been closed and the transport system has almost come to a hold in Cusco.

An international airport for the touristic hotspot Cusco in Peru would mean a greater dynamic of tourism in the region as passengers would not have to fly to Lima as a primary destination before reaching Cusco.

As informed by the Regional Coordination Council (CCR) of Cusco, a round-table to initiate dialogue between the different parties is supposed to be installed until June 12th.

All Cusco authorities and representatives of civil society are said to be brought together in order to discuss Executive the intangibility of the funds destined for the construction of the airport of Chinchero.
