Local Communities Come Together to Narrate Inca Myths

Villagers from local communities of Cusco participated in the “Encounter of Storytellers of Qhapaq Ñan” held at the Casa de la Cultura de San Bernardo last week.

The event featured 16 narrators recounting the myths, stories and legends that emerged from their communities and that are traditionally transmitted orally from parents to children.

The activity attracted the interest of the Cuzco audience who gathered at the Casa de la Cultura de San Bernardo to listen to these narrations and, at the same time, interact with the narrators to explore the origins of their fabulous stories.

Coordinator of the Qhapaq Ñan Project, Dr. Arminda Gibaja, explained that the narrators were selected by the communities themselves so that their myths, stories and legends were more reliable.

"The narrators of the Collasuyo region came from the districts of Lucre and Andahuaylillas, the Contisuyo region was represented by the districts of Ccorca and Huanoquite, Chinchaysuyo region was represented by Ancahuasi and Izcuchaca and the Antisuyo region was represented by people of Lares and Urubamba" explained the official.
