Juan Carlos Nieto, Chief of Machu Picchu Historic Sanctuary, announced that the Sanctuary´s attractions will be further promoted in 2016.Nieto admitted that the majority of travels focus their priority on visiting Machu Picchu itself. However, he insists that there are many other beautiful sites and attractions in the Sanctuary. The Sanctuary also boasts of an Inca road network that contains many archaeological sites, such as Patallacta, Wiñayhuayna, Huaynaquente, Torontoy, and Salapunku. These just being a few of the sites, there are countless more for visitors to explore. Nieto also announced that the Sanctuary increased the number of people that could come through on Route 5 (Chachabamba to Wiñaywayna to Machu Picchu). He asserts that this change will help to expand the Sanctuary and provide more opportunity for tourists to see other landscapes and attractions. In addition to this route change, Peru´s Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry will work to promote these new sites, thus diversifying the general tourist experience to the Historical Sanctuary.
