New Archaeological Discovery in Cusco

Recently, various government workers were doing maintenance along the Vilcanota River, and they made a new archaeological discovery.

They found the remains of an Incan altar, which was 2.5 meters long and 1 meter wide. Furthermore, the altar weighs 20 tons!

Experts believe that the altar was used in the Inca´s worship of the elements, specifically of water, seeing that it was such an important part of their crop development.

The Incan remains in this area were believed to be destroyed during the construction process of a road to Ollantaytambo a few years ago. Therefore, archaeologists were thrilled to discover that these ruins remained intact.

People wait in anticipation for this Incan altar to be restored and protected, thus conserving a beautiful piece of Peru´s history.
