A new frog species has been discovered in Cusco region

A new frog species has been discovered in Cusco, Peru.

The new species was discovered by park ranges, specialists of the area, and researchers who were conducting a routine biological study in the Lacco region of Cusco in the national sanctuary of megaton. The discovery was made at the edge of this sanctuary close to Manu national park.

The area where the frog was discovered is a zone in which the Andes and the amazon converge, at around 3,500 and 3,600 meter above sea level.

The terrestrial frog species belongs to the genus Bryophryne, which is endemic to Southeastern Peru and the Cusco the region. It is characterized by smooth skin and scattered green spots, an interesting feature of the new species is that it doesn’t have the basal membrane and it sits on its fingers.
