On Sunday March 15th in the evening, as we were all preparing for the start of a new work week, we got the shocking national announcement from the president of Peru that we were entering a nationwide quarantine and state of emergency with the closure of all borders by land, air and sea. In 2015 a total of 1,862,900 foreign tourist came to Cusco. This accounts for a significant increase from the previous year of almost 11%. These numbers were revealed by Peru’s Central Reserve Bank.
