The ‘Fiesta de la Virgen de Candelaria’ declared Human Heritage UNESCO

The Day of the Virgin of the Candlemas has been declared Intangible Human Heritage by UNESCO. The feast celebrated on the 2nd of February is typical of Puno, close to Cusco.

It is one of the most important religious feasts in Peru. Many pilgrims from all over Peru and tourists head to Puno for the celebrations. A lot of folk music will be played and you will see many people dance.

A similar feast is held in Bolivia. It is a tradition around Lake Titicaca for musical groups to perform folk music for the religious celebrations.
